Let’s Celebrate our Friends!
August 2, 2009 was National Friendship Day and it brought to my mind how important friendship is and how blessed we are when we have a true friend or friends.
Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in the United states inĀ 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebratedĀ around the world.
In it’s very essence, Friendship Day, is an opportunity for you to spend time with friends and express love for them. If you like, you can exchange, Gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands, these are all popular traditions for Friendship Day.
I’ve been blessed to have some good friends who include my best friends-my husband and my sisters. They all love me inspite of myself and to me that is what true friendship is.
Perhaps just as important as having good friends, is being a good friend to someone else. I’ve often considered myself a good friend, but I must admit that sometimes I get so caught up in my life that I sometimes neglect some of my friends. I’m going to do better.
This whole friendship idea came to me after I came across a really cool website called Girlfriendology (www.girlfriendology.com). The site is an inspiration, appreciation and celebration of friendship and provides an opportunity to nominate your best friend, purchase gifts and other exciting things.
Although August 2nd has come and gone you can still take a few moments to celebrate your friends.

It’s not too late!
It seems there are many holidays for this great excuse to love on our friends! This Sunday is National Women’s Friendship Day (Aug. 16) and then September 20 is another holiday devoted to the same! Lots of upcoming possibilities!
